The changing variety and volume of tasks, whether I am working from the office or at the client site, gives you the opportunity to ‘taste the fruit’ and accelerate your professional development.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my role is not only the multitude of industries and headline matters that we get to work on but the style of the engagements and the opportunity to be involved in the trade-on of a formal restructuring appointment. The changing variety and volume of tasks, whether I am working from the office or at the client site, gives you the opportunity to ‘taste the fruit’ and accelerate your professional development.

What has been challenging?

The most challenging aspect for me since starting my position has been managing changing priorities and workloads due to the dynamic environment in which we work. No two days are the same, and although the ‘deep end’ can be overwhelming during the beginning, it is exciting having new tasks come across your desk and the opportunity to help with tasks and projects.

How do you make your own impact?

In my graduate role, I am given real responsibilities and meaningful work, which allows me to make an impact. Engaging and playing an integral part in returning value to stakeholders of all sizes, in particular regular parent investors, I find very rewarding.

What is the culture like at FTI Consulting?

FTI is a great place to work. The company culture is very agile and collaborative; they prioritise connection and transparency on the operations, challenges, and goals of projects that you work on. I think this is a product of the relatively flat structure FTI has and the importance they place on learning and development. FTI’s support through my CA (Chartered Accountant) studies has been a real highlight for me.

What do you think of our Corporate Citizenship program (pro bono and volunteering opportunities)?

FTI places a strong emphasis on its Corporate Citizenship program, there are constant opportunities to help out with different initiatives, and they’re always open to supporting causes you are passionate about.

Have you volunteered yourself, and if so, what did you do?

I had the chance to help out the StreetLevel Mission initiative at the local Salvation Army with a bunch of the team, where we provided food, beverage and clothing to the local homeless community.

What is the recruitment process like?

The recruitment process was very interactive and challenging. It began with an online application, psychometric testing, phone interviews, group and individual assessments and ended with a final in-person interview where we got to see the office and meet with one of the Senior Managing Directors.

What advice would you give current students interested in working for FTI Consulting?

Whilst a strong background in accounting is very helpful when navigating the intricacies of the work in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring team, strong critical thinking skills and clear communication are essential and just as important, so don’t hesitate to put yourself out there if you don’t have a strong accounting background like myself.
